Eden Alternative
The Eden Alternative is an approach to care and the treatment of older people - being used in a number of Accord Care & Support schemes - that aims to eliminate feelings of loneliness, helplessness and boredom.
Developed by Dr William Thomas, Eden centres around bringing spontaneity and variety into people’s lives using interaction with children, pets and the local community.
Activities that take place at Accord's Care & Support schemes range from 'Be Active' seated exercise classes to craft sessions and quizzes.
Accord Housing Association was among the first organisations in the UK to embrace the Eden Alternative.
